Here’s what we’ve been up to lately… After coming home from Utah, we were home for about 3.5 days. In that time we celebrated New Year’s Eve like this: Brent tinkering away on his computer and me swooning over Edward until 10:15 pm when I decided it was time for sparkling cider and off to bed. New Year’s day we went to Hollywood and saw Wicked – which was really good. Thanks Greg and Ellen for the late night babysitting!

The next day I packed everyone up again, took Jake to the doctor’s for his first ever ear infection, and then drove 5 hours up to Fresno where we stayed one night, left the kids with Grandma and Grandpa Nef, then drove another 3 hours in a crazy rain storm up to Sacramento – where about 75% of the city had no power, including our hotel. It was worth it to see my older brother David and his wife Kaci, and their 6 KIDS all be sealed together in the Sacramento temple on Saturday. We met up with my parents, 3 other brothers, and 1 sister while we were there. It was fun to hang out with my little brothers for a day or 2 without any kids there. I felt like we were about 15, 14, and 10 again. We turned around and all drove home on Saturday night/Sunday morning and managed to make it back in time for 12:30 church. Though everyone was so exhausted – Danny actually fell asleep at the dinner table around 5. Poor kid! No one should have to spend that many hours in a car within a 2 week time frame… especially a 2 year old.
So now I’m home, unpacking AGAIN, hopefully for a longer stint this time, and mourning my vampire books. I finished them over the weekend and am so sad – I need more! My boys are driving me nuts lately because they seem to do nothing but fight. Jake purposely teases Danny 24/7 and Danny constantly screams and cries – just the reaction Jake seems to enjoy. ARGHH!! It’s making me look forward to Jacob’s all day, every day kindergarten next year… Is that bad?
Now, for the funny story that I’d wanted to document at the time, but was still a little miffed and so put it off till it was funnier in hindsight. About a week ago we were all racing around trying to get ready for church on Sunday. Everyone seemed to be a little cranky for some reason or another. Brent had loaded the boys into the car and was waiting in the driveway with the engine running. I got into the car and Jake says, “Dad, are you going to tell Mom what you said?” And Brent looks kind of perplexed, doesn’t answer. Jake says, “Da-ad, are you going to tell her? Remember?… you said that Mom was annoying.”
BUSTED.
I say, really irritated, “What? Why am I annoying?” Jake panics and shouts, pointing at Brent – “He said it! Not me!!” To which Brent laughs, and I glare out the window trying very hard not to laugh, and look mad instead.
