He Said, She Said

Brent and I both had a few random things we wanted to post about – so we thought it would be fun to combine and take turns… His stories are a lot more funny/cool, so we’ll get my 2 cents out of the way first:

I need to vent. We are in the midst of sort of potty training Danny. I’ve tried to just skip the whole messy fiasco of using a little training potty and go straight to the regular toilet. Unfortunately, this option isn’t as convenient and not as “fun” for Danny (or Jake… see potty tutorial pictures above). So back to the little potty. Which I hate!! Whoever designed those things did not do so with little boys in mind. Sure there is a little “shield” that is supposed to keep the pee from going everywhere – but it still takes some serious manipulation and aim to avoid major splatter. YUCK! And the little toilet bowl is so small that for my big Danny it’s almost a joke trying to get everything INSIDE of it. Am I the only one with this problem? I’ve been looking around at other little potties and haven’t seen any that look like much of an improvement. Sigh… I’m pretty much sick of urine in general. Wet diapers, wet beds, wet pull-ups, wet underwear, wet floors… Please – Will it ever end?? Though I suppose it’s worth it when I get to dress up my little Ken dolls every Sunday and see them look like this:

Because I’m Fat: Diet tips & math

53. Passionately kiss your partner 10 times a day. A passionate kiss burns 6.4 calories per minute. Ten minutes a day of kissing equates to about 23,000 calories — or eight pounds — a year!

If you do the math you have to kiss for a whole minute. I just thought that I’d mention it. I’m just saying. Tam… I need help losing weight (forget packing healthy lunches).

Zestfully Clean

My routine is fairly simple. I get up a little after 5. I shower. I go to work. I work. I come home. So imagine my surprise when I get out of the shower, and…. Wait. Surprise isn’t the right word. Disorientation, confusion, or perhaps a stronger adjective? Tami’s suggestion is befuddled. Let me rewind a bit, while I was in the shower, I could barely open my eyes I was so tired, which is not extraordinary — some days are just harder than others. Checking the clock after the shower, I was stunned to see I was ahead of schedule by about 5 hours… Literally stunned. I think I stared at the clock for about a minute (Tami says it was closer to 5) trying to understand what had just happened. When I finally wrapped my head around the fact that I had jumped out of bed and into the shower minutes after I had fallen asleep, I was exceedingly wrought. I got over it, but let’s just say Thursday wasn’t one of my better days.

Car Problems

A week ago, when traveling home from work (Carpool from San Diego to a Temecula parking lot, then I drive home a full 2 miles), I realized I was out of gas when the car started doing a little jerking thing it does when it gets fairly empty. I made it to the station without any problems and didn’t have to resort to any emergency calls for gas. But yesterday while coming home, I experienced some jerking again. Gas tank was about half full, and I failed to conceive of any other reasons for the jerkiness (awesome word – also a good band name – too bad jerkiness.com domain name taken). The jerking was really intermittent and didn’t seem to follow any rhyme or reason.

First thought: “Great, another thing to repair this weekend!”

Second thought: (After coming to a stoplight) Now what’s this banging under my hood?!! Am I about to throw a rod? (Dollar signs instantly in my head)

Third thought: Ummm, was that a rabbit that just ran out of my car?

So the jerking continued, but at a more regular pace which led me to believe that the rabbit did something. Later, after finding that one of the spark plug wires was nearly chewed all the way through, I realized that critter probably got what was coming to him. It is my belief that for the first part of the trip, the frayed wire shocked that rabbit to the point where it couldn’t move. At the stoplight, as the engine rpm’s fell to normal idling speeds, I think he/she/it finally found the respite it needed to get it’s legs under it and hop/hobble/wobble off. Which is a shame really, because I saw this really cool article about how you can cook food with your engine.

Programming Poetry

I know most people when they think of computer programming don’t find it as interesting I, and I thought I would share a passage from Frederick P. Brooks, The Mythical Man-Month. Brooks, in a software management text, lays down some reasons for why people enjoy creating software and does it with some impressive imagery and prose. However the passage is rather lengthy, so I put it here. Tami says she won’t read this, so no offense if you just pass on it. I’m just saying. I might quiz you on it later…

In response to Car Trouble – As Tyler pointed out, the only thing that would’ve made this story cooler is if you would’ve inherited a genuine rabbit’s foot for all your troubles… In response to Programming Poetry -I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again: Brent = nerd. Sorry dear, you know I love you…

That’s so cute that you blogged together! ( Is that officially a new word in the dictionary these days?) Tami…potty training makes moms angels I decided. Today we had our own fun experience of me holding Allison on the potty with all my might because she almost pooed her panties and then she was so tense that she refused to do it in the toilet. I guess she’ll be jumping around holding her bum a little longer today.
My mom always says-give your man a 7 second kiss everyday. What happened to us? Dan and I were like ALL OVER eachother when we were dating/engaged…I need some of THAT kinda energy 🙂
I would be sooo ticked if I got up and showered like that—if something gets in the way of my sleep I just get plain mad.
That rabbit had it comin’ to him–hasn’t he ever heard of grass???

Tami – you are so brave, I have no desire to potty train Ryan yet..keep me posted on the progress. My funny yet expensive rodent vs car story: A mouse ate through my air conditioning system and then decided to die. Let’s just say a hot car with a dead mouse will cost you a lot of $$$ to fix.

kinda funny… I was just reading an article at work the other day about rats and rabbits getting in the engine area and eating through wires and causing all sorts of hijinks

Dude – how come nobody is leaving comments on this post? It kind of dented my self esteem. We all know that coolness is measured in the number of comments received. I thought this post was brimming with good stories… Brent, it appears we’ve lost our blogging edge. Or maybe everyone just fell asleep when you ended with the programming poetry section…. 🙂

Okay, the programming thing probably put everyone to sleep, I’ll give you that. But maybe our stories were so awesome, people couldn’t relate, or find any way to top what we had put here. We know Tyler usually needs to top everyone’s stories, so obviously he was stumped.

Good call. Hey – look how many comments we have now!

We should just comment on our own stories to make us feel good.
