We officially had a really fun weekend. Friday night Brent and I met up with our MBA friends at Islands where we had some delicious onion rings and a burger that I am still thinking about – not joking! It was so good. I inhaled the whole thing before Brent had even dented his.

Then Saturday we went to the BYU/SDSU football game with a bunch of our family. We had total nosebleed seats and it was FREEZING – but we still had a great time. The view from up high at the Q was actually really good and the Cougars won – so of course everyone went home happy. The game was especially enjoyable because I got to chit chat with my family, and thanks to my awesome babysitters I didn’t have to deal with any kids for like 4-5 hours! The only bummer was that the game went super long and we weren’t able to make it back to my good friend Jamie’s big 30th birthday bash. I was super excited for her Awesome 80’s theme, too. Sorry Jamie!
After a lovely day at church on Sunday (minus the wardrobe malfunction where the button popped off the front of my dress and I had to hold it shut half the day) we decorated gingerbread houses with the kids. Brent’s mom was nice enough to bake all the gingerbread pieces for us over Thanksgiving – so all we had to do was make the icing and put them together. Or I should say all Brent had to do. I have the best husband, and my kids have the best daddy! I came downstairs Sunday afternoon to find Brent well into the process of creating cute little houses for all of us. He even looks good in an apron.

I helped Jake with one house and Brent helped Danny with another. At first all the kids wanted to do was eat the candy – especially Danny. Brent would stick on a bunch of pieces then leave for 5 seconds, come back, and all the candy would be gone! Ha – it was pretty funny seeing Danny eat faster than Brent could decorate. But they got the hang of it and enjoyed “gluing” the candy on. All of this with the Chipmunk Christmas album playing, our tree lit up in the background, and my Willowtree nativity on the table. LOVE IT! When we were finished we all snuggled on the couch under a blanket and watched The Santa Clause together. The boys also got to pick one “present” from under the tree. Brent’s mom started this great tradition for us – she wraps a little stack of new Christmas books for the boys every year so that they can pick one to open and read every night until Christmas. I also wrap the old ones (which are only brought out at Christmas). So the pile of “presents” is getting really big! Now we are just a few books short of having enough to start on December 1st. We love December! Christmas time, Brent’s birthday, and our anniversary all rolled into one.

Oh and to top everything off – Monday night I actually colored my hair at home from a box! I’ve been wanting to do this for a while now and finally got up the nerve. I like my hair just about 2 shades darker than my natural color, and have had it professionally colored for years. But its a pain to drive down to the the girl in San Diego that does it, it costs too much money, and half the time it doesn’t even turn out quite like I want. So I thought – hey how bad can I screw this up? And if it works – I’ll save a lot of money and have control over my hair! So I went for it – or made Brent go for it. I sat, while he donned the way too small plastic gloves and rubbed goop all over my hair (which is a big job because I have TONS of hair). 20 minutes later and…. Drumroll please…..
It turned out great! The color is just a little bit darker, it got rid of a lot of the brassy red tones I didn’t like, got rid of my 2 inches of roots, and made my hair incredibly soft and smell really good! I used Clairol Natural Instincts – it’s a demi-permanent so it starts to wash out after 28 shampoos. I was so excited that this first attempt didn’t end in disaster. Doing your own hair – very empowering, people.
Check out our latest album for more cute pictures from our fun weekend. Brent’s captions are always a hoot.
