Last Wednesday was an exciting day for us. Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa Finlayson’s generous Christmas gift, Brent and I were able to take Jacob and Danny to Disneyland for the first time, ever! We met up with a bunch of friends for a bit and then broke off from the group for some of the bigger rides. It was the perfect day – beautiful weather, no traffic, and an almost EMPTY Disneyland. We hardly had to wait in line for anything and the boys are officially in love. With Disneyland, that is. They have been asking to go back ever since and talk about nothing else. Jake even brought his Disneyland drivers’ license from the Autopia cars to school for show and tell on Thursday. Today they were pretending to be on some of their favorite rides. Danny’s bed was the submarine where they looked for Nemo, Jake’s bed was the spaceship from Star Tours, and then they chased Mom around with their Buzz Lightyear shooting lazers at me and calling me the “bad robot guy.”

Speaking of, Brent and I especially enjoyed the Buzz Lightyear ride we’d never been on before. These are pictures of a picture, but they are so funny because the boys are just kind of looking around enjoying the scenery and me and Brent are concentrating so hard!! Must stay on target… must shoot bad guys… must get more points… must win! Very serious business. Unfortunately, but not surprising – Brent rocked me on both rounds.

The boys are the perfect age for Disneyland. I was surprised how much they LOVED meeting all the characters. Toward the end of the night when we were all tired, Jake saw Minnie and was adamant that we wait in line so he could meet her and take a picture. So cute. And Danny was so brave – he’d get scared on a few of the rides, but then be so proud of himself when it was over. I love that kid because he’ll try anything! He even sat in the very front row with his 3 year old friend, Crew, on the very fast Gadget Go-Coaster in Toontown. (So mad I didn’t get a picture) I was worried he would fall out or be terrified – but he was smiling the whole way!
Jake’s favorite ride by far was Star Tours. I think we rode it 4 times. Part of that was because Danny just grazed the height requirement, so Brent and I took turns going with Jake. We would watch the entry to the ride and every time there was a shift change, we would attempt to get Danny in. They are sticklers at D-land! His hair was touching the line, and they still said No! Jake was upset Danny couldn’t ride with us and seeing Danny’s sad little face over and over again was just too much. So for the last ride of the night, my genius husband pulled us around the corner, took off his socks, folded them up, and put them inside Danny’s shoes… and… IT WORKED! HA! We all got in and enjoyed our little scam. It was an awesome day for our family – though not for our stroller. I think Disneyland will be it’s last adventure. We seem to have a knack for killing those things. We now have 4 crippled strollers lined up in our garage – 2 double, 2 single. Wednesday we managed to retire both double strollers in the same day. Maybe it’s time to invest in a really good (i.e. expensive) one…. Anyways, I can’t wait to go again. On a slow day like Wednesday, Disneyland really is the happiest place on earth!
