YUCK

So Danny randomly threw up late Wednesday afternoon. Since then we’ve had 3 days of disgusting diapers – but no more throw up, no fever, and a perfectly happy and energetic little boy who has only been eating slightly less than usual. I was hoping it was more of a fluke than anything else – until Jake woke us up with his screaming last night at 2 am, “Mommy! I threw up! I can’t stop!!” And yes, it was all over his bed and all over him. UGH. What is it with kids barfing in their beds?? I remember doing the same thing when I was little. It’s pretty much the worst thing ever.

Anyways – during these crucial parenting moments I’m always surprised at how I go into ultra-calm super-mom mode… and how Brent does the same. We seem to get things cleaned up, kids calm, and everyone settled in record time – and without anyone yelling or having a melt down. I think we make a good team. We also seem to do well under pressure. Though for me this is not a shocker (I’ve always actually liked deadlines and test taking). If only the everyday dramas could run as smoothly… Needless to say, we had a rough night. Jake and I were up for a few hours, with one more round of throw up. And yet another late this morning. I’m now on my third batch of laundry and have been burning candles in every room of the house, with the windows open. I’ve also felt slightly nauseous and tired for the last two days – hopefully it turns out to be nothing, because we all know mom’s can’t afford to get sick. Plus, I already had some sort of flu a month ago. Not fair.

Obviously there is some sort of stomach bug going around. My question is, what’s the deal with our flu shots? The last few years we’ve all had them – and no one has gotten sick. It’s been great! Not sure where we went wrong this season. And to make our stinky weekend even stinkier – Brent and I were supposed to go out on a lunch date with our MBA buddies today (whom we hardly see) and the boys were supposed to get to spend some time with their Uncle Greg (whom they adore and also hardly ever see) – but of course the fun had to be canceled all around. Bummer.

Oh well. Such is life. At least we get to watch church in our jammies.

i heard they guessed wrong on the flu strain this season for the flu shots and as a result it’s been the worst flu season in a really long time…
