Maybe you never noticed we were gone… It was a pretty quick trip. But for those of you that did (or didn’t) here’s a recap of our trip to Utah for my little brother Kenny’s wedding. We left Wednesday night, with my good friend Lauren and her kids tailing us. She called us up a half hour before we left wanting to take a last minute trip to Utah while her husband was busy working all week. He felt better having her stick with us on the road all night, and so did we. Plus, the kids liked having buddies along for the stops. We were all surprised when we were greeted with snow! Brent and I were both wearing shorts and flip flops when we drove in… can you say Californians?
The rest of the weekend is kind of a blur for me. I was so busy helping my mom with all sorts of wedding details and cleaning her massive house for the hoards of people that kept showing up that I never quite knew what day it was or when I last showered. Let alone when my kids last had a bath…
Within 3 days I managed to attend my sister-in-law’s graduation, help plan the wedding luncheon, make a dozen flower arrangements, finish the wedding video, hit up Cafe Rio and Costco, attend the sealing at Mt. Timpanogas temple, take massive family pictures (7 of 9 kids plus all the grandkids!), attend the reception, go to church, stay up extremely late, eat tons of home-made french fries, drink way too much soda – and pretty much drive myself to exhaustion. Not to mention the 2 blisters I earned spending the majority of the weekend running around in heels. Brent on the other hand, spent most of his time at the house in his pajamas – happily tinkering away on his computer or playing video games with the kids. Not that I’m complaining. I get a big kick out of organizing and getting things done – especially for weddings! I think I’d be a good wedding coordinator.
The highlight of the weekend was seeing Kenny and Jane married in the temple. Their sealer did such a beautiful job; it was one of the nicest sealings I’ve been to. The two of them are such a good match. Thanks to Jane, Kenny has changed from a kind of crazy, spoiled, goof ball into a well-mannered man with a plan! I’m excited to have her in the family. Plus, she has an extensive collection of really cute shoes…
Other things I will always remember about this weekend:
- Hanging out in the hot tub before the wedding with my closest siblings and getting to bombard Kenny with one inappropriate joke after another.
- Getting to watch everyone’s reactions (especially Kenny and Jane’s) to the wedding video Brent and I slaved over. Always makes it worth it. Laughter + tears (and a few “Awwws”) = SUCCESS!
- Cleaning up Danny’s bed barf, living room barf, and bowl barf, for about 3 hours in the middle of the night after the wedding. I finally just camped out next to his mattress and lined the hallway to the bathroom with towels. It must’ve just been too much chocolate from the chocolate fountain or something, because he was fine in the morning. Though I think I must’ve been delirious with sleep deprivation because during that three hours I decided to tidy up the entire basement of my parent’s house… I mean since I was already up doing laundry and all…
It was a fun, crazy weekend spent with lots of family and friends. (Melanie, it was fun to spend the day with you! Thanks for all your help!) We’re happy we got to be a part of all the festivities. Check out more pictures here. Congrats to the newlyweds!
