Well our post about the 4th is showing up on the 10th – but what can you do? Better late than never. We had a really relaxing, fun, LONG weekend – thanks to the fact that Brent not only had Friday off from work, but Monday as well. Score! We still don’t know why – but we didn’t argue. 🙂 The fam got to spend lots of time together – swimming, watching movies, sleeping in, eating. It was great. After spending the day at the pool on the 4th – we headed down to my hometown of Poway to meet up with my sister Joanne, her husband Mark, and their boys. Poway High (my alma mater – class of 99!) hosts a big fireworks show every year out on the football field. Sidenote – the school has been COMPLETELY remodeled since I went there. It was weird, seeing my school, but not…

Anyways, my brother in law Mark works for the city and helps run the show. You pay 2$ for adults to get in and then they have a great DJ, music, dancing, and lots of little carnival style games and booths for the kids until the fireworks start. It wasn’t even that crowded. The boys pretty much had the time of their lives just running around crazy on a big football field with their cousins and fake racing around the track. The only mishap occurred when Danny threw a football in the air and it landed right on some guys Coke as he was going to drink it. Whoops. We said sorry – but he wasn’t too thrilled with us.
We spread our blankets and pigged out on KFC, my sister’s homemade chocolate chip cookies, licorice, cracker jacks, and peach rings. Another side note – avoid the KFC in Escondido. We tried to hit that one on the way down, and after waiting in line forever – the girl up front tells me that out of their like 5 kinds of chicken they only have one kind available – and it’s some weird kind no one has ever heard of. What the heck?? How does KFC run out of chicken?? And on the 4th of July!! No crispy, no original – if you can’t tell I was pretty ticked. So we left and hit up the Poway KFC instead which gave us all of our food without any issues in about 2.5 seconds. The Escondido KFC is officially ghetto and has lost any of our future business. (Since we’ve been to KFC approximately once in about the last 5 years, but that’s beside the point.)

So the fireworks started and I was shocked that the kids totally deserted the game they were next in line for and high tailed it over to our blanket so they wouldn’t miss anything. They both LOVED the show and didn’t even cover their ears. During the fireworks I couldn’t help but NOT watching the show and watching my precious little family instead. 4th of July always makes me count my blessings – 1,2,3 wonderful boys that I love more than anything.
Here is Danny wishing you all a happy 4th with some of his trademark moves. I can’t wait to watch this 10 or 20 years down the road.
