Lost Dog

About a week ago I was getting dressed for the day, making beds, gathering school supplies, etc. when Jake came up to me with a little pad of Post-It notes and asked if he could use them. I said sure, forgot about it, and then shortly after left for school and some other errands. When I got back home later that day I took notice of what he had done with all the Post-It’s. They were stuck up on the walls all over the house. Most of them said See Dog, with a few variations.

I thought oh how cute – look how good he is writing his words! I knew SEE was one word he was good at writing, and figured he had sounded out how to spell DOG all by himself – end of story. I left them up because I thought Brent would get a kick out of seeing how well he was sounding out and spelling new words. So dinner time rolls around, Brent comes home, sees all the little notes, and launches right into a detailed discussion with Jake about the “Lost Dog” posters he had pinned up all over the house and how that was such a fun idea. I was flabbergasted at this revelation. Now the Post-It with the random numbers (our phone number) and the lone DOG? (with a question mark) made so much more sense!! After getting over the slight irritation that Mom is totally clueless and apparently has no imagination whatsoever – I got a pretty big kick out of the fact that Dad, straight home from work, and my 4 year old were totally on the same wavelength. Great minds think alike, I guess.

And no, we don’t even have a dog! Though if ever there was a kid that should have a dog – it’s Jake. He has been in love with dogs and showed absolutely no fear of them since he was a little baby. He will literally spend HOURS playing with friends’ dogs when given the chance. Last Christmas he was more excited to give his Uncle Teddy’s dog a surprise can of dog food than just about anything else. It’s times like these, coupled with the fact that Jake took his little stuffed puppy on his “leash” to school for show and tell on Friday – that almost make me want to get a real dog…. ALMOST.

By the way – Jake is currently trying to decide on a name for his little dog. He tells us it’s between “Jonanyah” and “Bob”. No joke. I couldn’t come up with this stuff on my own.

that is so funny! grace is totally in love with dogs right now, too. our backyard neighbors have 2 golden retrievers and she goes outside to swing all day long in the hopes that daisy and trooper will come out for her to play with through the fence. its pathetically sad and cute all at the same time. after asking over and over and over, i think she has finally realized we will most likely NEVER get a dog, because scott is kind of allergic and i kind of can’t handle another thing to take care of. oh well. as she says “when dad is a grandpa, then i will get a dog.”

That is such a cute story. I am sure Jake’s future wife is going to love looking back at these posts and seeing the cute things her husband did as a kid. And I think fluffy is the perfect name for the stuffed puppy.

haha Cute!. It’s funny how Brent deciphered the “Lost Dog” code.. I would not have any idea either. Takes me back when Tre was 4 and used to call the puffed Doritos “Little Pillows” . He tried to tell me he wanted to snack on “Little Pillows” all day long- it was not until his Dad came home that evening I knew what Tre meant… 🙂

Boys and their dogs, so cute. Bradley wants a dog so bad too. Maybe they could share. I could almost do a part time dog!
