That’s what my boys said this morning when they woke up and saw that (to their dismay) during the night I had packed away most of the Christmas decorations. I felt a little grinch-like putting everything away in such a rush. We just got back into town Monday afternoon – and I had almost everything packed up by Tuesday morning. Why the hurry? Well – a few reasons….
- After a month of Christmas decor, I get a little sick of it.
- My house is small – and all the excess starts to feel like clutter. I HATE clutter.
- Santa isn’t coming anymore – the baby is!! And that means I’ve got some serious nesting, decorating, and organizing to accomplish in the next few weeks.
Basically – we’re having spring cleaning in December around here. Out with the old and in with the new! Space is at a premium, so all old toys, clothes, and miscellaneous junk are on their way to DI. The boys were a little panicked at all the packing up and shipping out, until I assured them that we wouldn’t have to put away or give away any of their new Christmas toys.

We had a great vacation at Brent’s parents house in Fresno. So great that all we did was eat (mostly chocolate), sit on our butts, sleep, play games, watch movies, and play with toys. For those of you who know how big of a gym rat I am, you’ll be impressed to hear that in the 6 days we were gone the only “exercise” I did was a leisurely 20 minute stroll with Dad, boys, and remote control car in tow. I am not proud. And I’m definitely looking a little chubby these days. But oh well, at least the end is near! And I gave my sore legs and feet a nice vacation too. Happy holidays ankles!

Brent’s dad passed the torch this year and put my hubby of SEVEN YEARS (as of the 27th!) in charge of reading from Luke on Christmas Eve. The rest of us were the cast in a very serious and moving portrayal… With Danny as Joseph and me as Mary, who was “great with child.” The boys also got to open two gifts that night – ADORABLE homemade quilts from their Grandma Nef, and new jammies from Mom and Dad. And we’re not talking your traditional matching holiday jammies. These were SO much cooler than that. Full-on (cape included and flashing lights) Batman and Superman pajamas. Now, for all of you parents out there who refuse to let your kids wear any Disney or character type clothing – let me state for the record – that I generally feel the same way. BUT it is my firm belief that every little boy needs pajamas like these at least once. The joy! The excitement! The fun! So worth it. They have been wearing them for a week straight now and have to be coaxed into taking them off at all.

Speaking of Batman – Danny is obsessed with anything having to do with him. For Christmas he told everyone that he wanted “Batman stuff.” So – he got Batman jammies, Batman slippers, a Batman mask (that he literally wears all day, everyday), Batman toothbrush and toothpaste, a Batman remote control Batmobile, and a Batman yo-yo, pens, and tatoos. He also loved the awesome life-size spaceship Aunt Melanie and Uncle Andrew made for him and his brother – complete with joystick steering wheel, lights, and snacks for space travel.

Jacob was a little more varied in his wishlist – but highlights include a remote control car (several, actually), a dart gun, and Ninja Turtle and Transformers stuff. However, all of those gifts paled in comparison to Jake’s favorite present and newest most prized possession: The 88 cent Whoopi Cushion. He loved it so hard it was patched with duck tape twice within a few hours. For two days straight we heard nothing but inappropriately timed “toots” followed by equally enthusiastic laughter each time. Kinda gross – but the anticipation in Jake’s face before every detonation? PRICELESS. I love having boys. For those of you interested, there are more pictures here. Now, if you’ll excuse me I’m going to go have some hot chocolate. Hey, I wrote an entire blog post and went to the gym today… I earned it!
