Movin On Up

Well, I said it when Jake started school, but as of Monday it’s even more true: I’m really a real mom now. A card carrying mini-van driving mom! I had convinced Brent and myself that I could get by with 3 kids in my trusty old Honda CRV. It was a perfectly good (and paid off) little car, and technically could fit 3 carseats in the back. Brent bet me I wouldn’t make it past our first road trip without wanting a bigger car. Well he was wrong. I couldn’t make it past the FIRST DAY I actually had to squeeze all three little bodies back there, buckle three extremely hard to reach seatbelts, and attempt to make it to school on time while enjoying surround sound baby screams and boys fighting. Yay! Thus a meltdown was had, and car shopping began.

Say hello to our new (used) 2006 Toyota Sienna LE. I LOVE IT. In fact, I’m almost in love with it. And the boys would probably marry it. They think it is THE COOLEST THING EVER. In fact, Danny went out the day after we bought it and stood in the garage several times, just to look at it. The automatic sliding doors make it as cool as a space ship. And everyday reveals some new wonder that Jake and Danny are just thrilled over. Another cup holder Mom! Back windows that vent open… AWESOME. Tons of lights and gadgets. Oh the joy! I pretty much feel the same way. The car is so comfortable, quiet, and smooth. And white – Hooray! I’m so sick of having a dark car that always looks dirty. And after having never driven anything but older cars, I feel like I’m living large now with power everything, 6 CD changer, MP3 player, nice interior, etc. And the best part – driving home from the dealer I yell to the boys in the back row, “You guys are so far away!” They answer, “What’d you say??” 🙂 There is so much space! The kids are in another time zone back there… SO WORTH IT. We now cruise around in soccer mom style while I blast my tunes on the nice sound system and drown out everything behind me.

In other news – Lindsay is one month old! How did that happen? She still seems so tiny to me, but is definitely growing. LJ is generally happy, sleeps like a champ, and doesn’t spit up very often – a miracle in our household. She is starting to make cute little baby noises and has even offered up some good smiles – to Brent only of course. Why is that? The mother does all the work, and the kid always rewards Daddy with the first smile, the first laugh. I’d be bitter if seeing how it melts Brent didn’t melt me. She’s already got him whipped.

Life with three kids is definitely more hectic than life with two. There is always somewhere to be, someone to feed, or something waiting to be done. Case in point: today I realized that the last time the boys had a bath was Sunday morning… It’s Friday night. GROSS. Also disturbing: my appearance for the last month. Make-up and cute hair have been completely shelved in exchange for food, sleep, and showers. Thank goodness my husband is extremely low maintenance that way and actually prefers me in a ponytail. Still, I better not push it. It’s on my list to make myself pretty – just as soon as I do the laundry, wipe down the counters, start the dishwasher, pack lunches, feed the baby, pay some bills, go to the bathroom, pick up toys, and eat dinner (at 9:00pm).

I hear ya sister…. 🙂 Mark’s been shopping on the internet for Chevy tahoes, suburbans etc.. I can’t wait til I’m the one driving the nice car, althoough I’m a little afraid of parking something that big 🙂 His truck is paid off in 2 months! Woo Hooo!…then we’ll probably trade it in shortly after. Anyway…I can totally see Danny in Lindsay. I feel like a bad aunt, haven’t seen her much. You should come pick me up and the two little ones in your fancy van sometime for a play date 🙂

Our house is all about BIG cars. What’s funny is that your minivan looks so tiny to me! Congrats on the bigger car…you really need it!!! Lindsay is super cute!!!

Love the new addition to the family….the mini van I mean, –cuz we already welcomed LJ. I can’t believe all these babies are turning 1 month old already. It’s making me think these next few months are going to fly. Time to gear up for 3 kids yikes! Looks like you’re handling everything great!

I loved this post! You are so funny.. Congratulations on the new ride! It’s funny. I also compared the automatic doors with space ship, when I rented a minivan for my family back in May 07! LOL.. Love LJ’s pics. She’s gorgeous!

Three kids can be kind of hectic when you actually have to be places at certain times of the day…like school and such. You seem to be handling it beautifully. I love the mini van. You know you have hit Mom status when you get one of those. I remember when I got mine and I almost felt like I was driving around my mom’s car. Nope it was all mine.

you’re doing great. i had to get a minivan when i was 26–which was hard on me mentally, but physically? you can’t beat the ease of a minivan.

Hooray for a new car! New cars are always fun. Lj is darling. It gives me hope for my 3rd (if we ever have one) that maybe he/she won’t spit up every second of every day. But probably not my luck!

I babysat my sisters kids before Jarom was born and had a small taste of 3 carseats in the back of a small car. Let’s just say I was in an instant bad mood everytime I had to do that so I told Koki that if he wanted a happy wife we needed to buy a van before the baby was born 🙂

I love the picture of Brent and the baby. It’s so cute to see the guys as dads!
