A Beautiful Day

We had a busy weekend. Sunday was LJ’s baby blessing at church so we had a lot of family from both sides come into town. I was pretty nervous about how the day would turn out… These were the constant concerns running through my head:

How will I fit 25 people into my small house for lunch?? Do we have enough food? Will the weather be nice enough for people to sit outside? How am I going to get me and all 3 kids ready for church, fed, and the house prepped for company and be out the door by 8:15 am… especially since my husband has meetings from 6:20 until 8?? Will Lindsay stay quiet for her blessing – or will everyone hear her notoriously loud breathing/grunting/wheezing through the microphone? Will she spit up all over everyone that wants to hold her? Will she barf/poop on her cute dress before we even get a picture? Will everyone get to church by 8:30, in time for the blessing? And how will I nurse her every two hours, amidst all the chaos?

I really got nervous when the day started out like this:

6:20 – Brent leaves. I’m half done with my make-up, none done with my hair, hoping to accomplish both before all the kids wake up.
6:22 – Danny wakes up and runs into my room whimpering that his tummy hurts. I ask him if he needs to throw up, he says yes, and leans over the toilet crying. On the outside I’m calm – on the inside I’m screaming, “You’ve got be kidding me!! What are we gonna do with a sick kid??”
6:23 – Lindsay wakes up (an hour earlier than usual) angry and screaming. She wants to eat NOW.
6:24 – Danny decides he needs to poop instead of throw up. He spends the next 15 minutes holed up in the bathroom with a gnarly case of diarrhea.

At this point I was pretty sure the day was doomed. But I think Heavenly Father looked down around 6:45, took pity on me, and had a change of heart. Danny was fine after that (too much fruit?), and the morning was back on track.  In fact, the rest of the day went so perfectly I could swear someone sprinkled fairy dust on it – just for me.

The weather was beautiful. Everyone was on time to church. Brent gave LJ a beautiful blessing which she slept through quiet as a mouse, and cute as an angel. Everyone fit into the house/backyard and enjoyed just the right amount of food and the most delicious chocolate birthday cake EVER. The boys were well behaved and had tons of fun with their cousins. Lindsay pretty much never spit up, never cried, and happily snuggled with just about every person there. She even gave up some good smiles for a few lucky recipients. Seriously – it was THE PERFECT DAY. I think it was tender mercies from the Lord for a tired mother.

And because it was such a perfect day, we took about 2 million pictures. There are more posted here. I can’t even stand how adorable LJ looked. I am just GIDDY to have a daughter that I get to dress in bloomers, bows, bracelets, and fancy shoes! Thank you so much to all the family that came. And to those that couldn’t make it – we missed you! You are the only thing that could’ve made the day a little brighter… I’m so grateful for my little family. And for the family I was born into, and the one I inherited. It’s an amazing thing to be surrounded by so much love. A recent family portrait (courtesy of Jake) pretty much sums up the way I feel. I love that it’s yellow and everyone is smiling… even the sun.

Congrats on a successful busy day! You all look gorgeous and Lindsay is getting so big already! She’s so cute! Glad you guys had a great Sunny day! On Sunday we were surprised with a crazy white-out ice/snow storm that left us all standing in swirling freezing snow and ice while we scrapped forever at the windows of our cars before we could drive home after church! Anyway! Congrats again!

Am I hallucinating or did the bracelet I made LJ make it to her blessing outfit? Go me!

I really love her little outfit, it is so simple and sweet. I’m glad the day went well for you. I have like two pictures of Wren’s blessing day because she was not quite as easygoing that day.

I love seeing the pictures! We are moving to a new house tomorrow and I have LOADS to pack, but instead I am looking at your cute family and fun blog. I am so glad that you feel a little overwhelmed! It helps those of us who are less than perfect (and frequently overwhelmed) feel a bit better! By the way- you look great!
