Other What Not

We’ve had a few other happenings in the last week… LJ went in for her 2 month check up. She was so good and smiley for the doctor it made me feel HORRIBLE when they pulled a fast one on her and busted out the needles. Seeing the big fat tears well up in her eyes just about broke my heart. Our Lindsay girl was 10 lbs. 2 oz. and around 22 inches long. That’s about the 30th percentile. Her cheeks are definitely getting more chubby… And we just love her! She is so cute and happy. (See proof in pictures below.) And did I mention that she is sleeping through the night? About 8:30 to 5, then again until 7 or so. WOO HOO!

Also, after a lot of crazy loud breathing, and a little concern on my part – the doctor diagnosed Lindsay with laryngotracheomalacia. Quite the mouthful, huh? One of the doctor’s kids actually had the same thing, so he recognized the symptoms right away. This basically means Lindsay was born with a smaller than average airway that is still made up of soft collapsible tissues. Which equals a lot of wheezing, whistling, and snoring type noises. It’s worse when she’s excited, and almost disappears when she is sleeping. The good news is that it doesn’t seem to bother her, doesn’t require any treatment, and that she will eventually grow out of it. The bad news is that she’ll probably have it until she’s at least a year old, and that if she gets a cold it can be really bad. I’ve always been more of a mom who believes in immersing my kids in germs – they rarely get sick! But with LJ I think we’ll have to be a little more cautious. So, please don’t ask if my baby is sick or congested or tell me I need to take her to the doctor. She is fine! And if you hear her making a ruckus, do me a favor and pretend you don’t notice. 🙂

I mentioned in the last post that Brent went out of town for the better part of a week. Thank goodness my parents were around for a few of the days to help out. During the one night I was completely on my own – Jake managed to rip up a chunk of our wood floors and stick his scissors into a nearby electrical outlet all while I was nursing the baby and he was supposed to be doing his homework. His bright idea resulted in a loud popping noise, sparks, a big black burn mark on the outlet, and some seriously singed scissors! Yikes. Not to mention a complete melt down on his part – mostly from fear of Mom and Dad’s wrath. Especially Dad’s. In fact – Jacob would quietly ask me about a dozen times over the next 24 hours to “please not tell Dad.” Add all that to the regular noise, whining, and fighting and well – let’s just say the boys went to bed very early that night. I don’t even think I made them brush their teeth or say their prayers… It was all I could do to get them into bed. I really don’t think I could pull off the whole single mother thing. I was glad to have my husband back.

We celebrated Brent’s return by making our first family trip to the beach this season. Jeff (Brent’s brother) and his girlfriend came down for a visit from Atlanta and scored some seriously nice weather for the weekend. So we all met up with Ellen and Greg (another brother) and spent the bulk of the day on Friday soaking up rays, flying kites, playing in the sand, surfing, and boogie boarding. The kids were in heaven! They so love their uncles… And seriously – San Diego is one of the prettiest places in the world. I still LOVE living in So. Cal. and hope we never have to move!

scissors in the electrical socket?? thank goodness he is okay! and i am totally with you on putting the kids down EARLY whenever scott is out of town. single parenting is rough.

lindsay is so cute and smiley! sorry about the breathing troubles…we know how that goes. and even though i should, i still don’t really worry all that much about germs!

Super cute Easter scavenger hunt idea! I love it! And Nathan had the same small airway thing. They didn’t give us the technical term, they just called it “stridor” (it looks like they mention that word in your explanation link). Nathan grew out of it and there were never any complications, just super loud snoring and crazy wheezy breathing and all of that. We couldn’t have him sleep in our room ever and we had to have both the door to his room and our doors closed at night (and Peter still slept with ear plugs every night) because his snoring was SOOooooooo loud! Anyway. Fun beach pix! and typical Boy stories!! Sorry your house it taking a hit at their expense, but I’m sorry to say that I wouldn’t expect it to get any better as they grow up. Tyler is begging for a pocket knife these days. I have visions of my leather couches guts spilling out and slits in his walls and pillows and everything else in the house! Oh well… boys will be boys, and we just have to keep trying to channel their excessive energy!

Cute, cute pictures of everyone, especially the baby. I like the one with all three in your bed! Nice beach pictures–I am jealous. After our near death experience on the snowy road, I am missing California! But I do have the best of both worlds!
    Love, Mom

That really is so sad when they are so happy and then they get poked and give you that look of betrayal.
Oh man, being a parent is hard!

Lindsay totally looks like a mix between Jake and Danny! You can definitely see she’s a NEF. I love the easter hunt idea. I may have to steal that one next year :).
