Do Your Thing

Remember how when you were little, you would get to laughing SO HARD that you couldn’t breathe and would almost pee your pants? How come it’s so rare to laugh like that as an adult? I miss those days of frequent laugh attacks. And I miss being ticklish. I really just hate being tickled now. It kind of makes me want to curse, instead of laugh. That’s one of the reasons I love my husband – he has such an easy laugh. Ask anyone who’s watched America’s Funniest Home Videos with him. It’s one of his favorite shows. It doesn’t matter how many people fall off the trampoline or get kicked in the privates. The joke never gets old.

A few posts back Brent mentioned how making the kids laugh was supposed to be “his thing.” He was mad because Lindsay gave me her first laugh instead of him. Now I see that my sweet girl was really just being nice. Because LJ never laughs like this for me… And neither do the boys. Looks like Dad’s still got it.

Little Lindsay is going on 3.5 months old now and is just that – little. Hard to believe coming from the likes of me and Brent. Have you seen Danny?? Maybe she inherited the teeny tiny gene from her Aunt Jo… they do share a name. I think she is literally about half the size of her baby boyfriends Milo and Moseley (born around the same time). She is barely tipping the scales at 11.5 pounds these days. Weight gain does not come easy for LJ (lucky girl!). But she is doing great – sleeping all night, happy during the day, getting more mobile – scooting and rolling, laughing, and is a sweet, happy spirit that we love having around.

Though I am definitely of the camp that believes going from 2 to 3 kids is way more hard than 1 to 2. I just cannot stay on top of things! And it is extremely annoying to always feel two steps behind. And holy cow – I don’t know what it was about the third kid – but THE LAUNDRY!! It is never ending! By the time I get the clean stuff unloaded and put away, there is another full batch waiting to be done. Ugh. And sadly – my grooming habits and personal appearance have taken a direct hit with the addition of baby #3. Hair and make-up are generally saved for special occasions. As are anything close to a cute outfit. And I refuse to shop for any new clothes until I’ve lost at least 10 more pounds of baby flab. Go figure – my smallest baby, but I gained the most and have had the hardest time getting it off. Add all that together (plus a little baby barf) and you get a somewhat sloppy, shlumpy mom.

Sorry Brent. Don’t lose faith. I haven’t given up. I’m hoping to get better as the baby gets older. Hey – at least I’m hitting the gym! Nevermind if I then stay in my stinky clothes all day long and don’t get around to showering till 10 pm… Cuz really, it’s all about priorities. And for me it’s much more important to fit back into my skinny jeans then it is to make the beds.

You do what you gotta do.

Does this mean I get to use the “you do what you gotta do” defense next time you ask me to take out the trash? I mean cause sometimes watching the Lakers might be more important to me. I’m just saying…

Hmmm… watching the Lakers and America’s Funniest Home Videos must run in the Nef family. I hadn’t seen either in a really long time until I started dating Jeff! Now I see them on a VERY regular basis. 🙂

And Tami, no worries. You are way skinny girl! When I saw you at the beach back in April I couldn’t BELIEVE you’d just had a baby two months before. You seriously looked great, and I’m sure you still do now!

Thanks for the heads up. Loads of laudry…no showers until after bedtime….and BUSY. I’m not sure how else to prepare…but the more info, the less shock….hopefully. You seem to be holding things together great! You look great too…I know how it is though under all the clothes…to yourself it can be discouraging. Joanne’s right….give it AT LEAST 6 months. It IS baby number 3 after all.

i’m totally jealous! how have you gotten her to sleep through the night so early? and i hear you on the laundry. after sophie was born, the amount increased exponentially. especially since she was such a spit-uppy baby. and good for you for hitting the gym with 3 kids. life definitely got more difficult for me with 3. for the record i agree with everyone else — you look great!

Dude 2 kids or 3 my personal hygiene has definitely gone way down since having the baby. I really only get ready if I know I have to leave the house. So in other words don’t come to my house unexpected unless you want to see me in the same ratty T-shirt and sweats I slept in.
I always wondered why moms kind of just give up. Now I know. Now I know.
