Trick to the Treat

Today I ripped a bolt in half. I am that strong.

Did anyone see that last post that Tami did. You know, with her girlfriends? Did you see the pictures with “Edward”? What the heck? I think that she is starting to have an unhealthy fascination with vampires. It’s difficult to highlight what has disturbed me the most, there are just so many things that I can point out. It probably started with the Twilight books (if I had the room I was going to tell the story of how Tami — in adoring detail — read me the section out of those books about Edwards sparkling body, or when she was wrapping up the last book, she gave me the plot highlights, and let’s just say that my suspension of disbelief was not captured the same way that hers was.) (Or there was the time when she confessed that she was looking for Edwards Volvo all the time — no wait that was last night…) Now the obsession has progressed into some weekly vampire tv show and I fear that sometimes she thinks vampires are real. Next thing you know she’s going to come home from the dentist with cosmetic veneer fangs. Very scary. AAAAnnnndddd from vampires, that’s my seque into Halloween.

This year we ditched the hood for a Thanksgiving/Birthday/Halloween celebration in Fresno with my family. My brother and sister, Andrew and Melanie, share a birthday on the 30th of October, a date that they feel has hosed them their whole lives. I think it’s great. I mean who could forget a date like that? With all my brothers and sister in the same place good times were definitely had as we ate food, made jokes, carved pumpkins (with power tools!), played wii, ate some more food, went to the Fresno St. football game (sorry Utah State), got costumed up (Lindsay was so cute, we dressed her in 2 different costumes), had an impromptu photo shoot, and went trick-or-treating.

Memorable experience trick-or-treating in Fresno

Super cute cousins.

At a house that resembled the haunted mansion at Disneyland (tall white pillars, spooky halloween ambience), a lady came out with full witch makeup, cackling madly. Danny immediately spun around and sprinted to the end of the street. Jake backed up and brought up his lightsaber in case she started getting all crazy (I mean getting any more crazy). After the customary trick-or-treat opening shot was fired, crazy witch lady volleyed back with a “trick” of her own, a spirited flute/recorder solo (see Ron Burgundy – Jazz Flutist). Danny finally made it back by this point but he stayed closer to me as a precaution for the rest of the night. Awesome witch lady finally gave out the candy, and by that point Jake was giving me the “what’s wrong with this lady” look. As he told the story later, this was really a test and if you didn’t pass the test you didn’t get candy, but he passed the test and got candy. He has it all figured out.

Unfortunately, Andrew got engaged AFTER we came home, and I was deprived from asking all sorts of awkward questions like when they were going to have kids and if they were going to keep living at my parents house… I’ll have to come up with some more for Thanksgiving.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to find a way to reassemble a toilet that’s missing a bolt.

Tami added many pictures to illustrate our goings on, but you can see even more pictures here.

Update (11/9): I need some good awkward questions for Andrew and Ashley.

You’re not alone brother, vampires have taken over our marriage too and I have this to say:

If the shoe were on the other foot and we were obsessing over some underage and undead cheerleader and photoshopping her into pictures where our wife should be…

Yeah, I think we know how well that would go over.

Okay, ALSO, I need some good awkward questions for my brother and future sister-in-law for Thanksgiving. It’s probably too late to ask for those…

I like to tease them about Ashley #2. In addition, any future questions about kids are great. Or how about the fact that mom has walked in on them kissing? Too weird? (from what I heard mom told andrew to do that so she could actually see that they like each other or something. I don’t know. Ask Andrew for that story)…hmm…lets see. If I think of anything else I’ll let you know.

Excellent Melanie, that’s exactly the kind of stuff we need.
