Oh So Clever…

Since I’m sure you are all waiting on pins and needles to hear the chosen name of our new house, here it is:

NEFERLAND.

Really, there was no question. As soon as my dad threw that one out there – we knew that was it. Totally funny and totally fitting. The house is ruled by crazy, dirty, loud, little boys who even crow and sword fight from time to time. We have our own little Tink who toddles around in cute little dresses getting everyone to do everything she wants. And even Brent (Pan the man) is really just a big kid at heart. I could be either Wendy (sweet, kind, maternal) or Captain Hook (scary pirate on an evil rampage) depending on the day…

Don’t forget the MJ connection. We all know how the Nef’s feel about Michael Jackson (JUST MUSIC! not monkeys, Jesus juice, or creepy sleepovers. Sheesh.). Congrats Dad on your cleverness and congrats to all of you runner up’s for blowing us out of the water with your creativity and hilariousness. Seriously. Who knew some of you were so full of good ideas? 🙂

Honorable mentions go to Ryan for Nefchanga (a close second), and Brent for Jackpot and What the Nef?. While the poll was educational – we may or may not have rigged it to serve our own purposes. But don’t worry – we have other plans for What the Nef? and we used one of the other suggestions for something else:

The Neftorious B.I.G. aka The Swagger Wagon

I couldn’t bear to let that name go to waste, plus it was perfect for our super cool swagger wagon. Seriously, how cool are we? And how cool is our ride? I want to get personalized plates. Thanks to my little brother Kenny for the awesome name and the inspiration for these awesome pics.

I apologize to the innocent hamster that my friend Wendy (aka Blue Lily) will now sacrifice because we did not choose Nefchanga (see comments).

PS – The house is finally starting to feel like home! We’ve been BUSY around here. And bleeding money. In the form of a new garage door, re textured ceilings, LOTS of new paint, new french style sliding glass doors, new couches, new rugs, a new and bigger bed, new table and chairs, refinishing an old/new entertainment stand, resurfacing showers and tubs, installing all new blinds, all new doorknobs, etc. We don’t really have any good before pictures – so you’ll just have to take our word at the improvements. But the whole house now feels way more modern, bright, comfy, and cute. Here are a few sneaky peaks of what we’ve been up to… Still a ton to do, but we are out of money for the time being. Which is probably a good thing because I AM POOPED.

I know when I’ve been outdone. Neferland could not be denied.

Re: the swagger wagon pictures… I can only imagine the neighbors peering out through a tiny crack in the blinds watching the new family pose in church clothes in front of a minivan and thinking “What the Nef are they doing? They better not come over and try to sell us Amway or something”

    🙂

Please tell me the brass “chandelier” with the golden chain/power cord running to the wall plug is gone.

Oh that’s gone, there’s just a hole in the ceiling where it used to be mounted. One of these days I’ll probably patch that too.

Ha, I was wondering if that was what you were going for in that picture, Brent. Just a happy coincidence, then?

The house looks beautiful! I especially love the eating nook in your kitchen, it is the perfect spot.

Love the van pics. You’re a hottie. I love your kitchen nook! It’s so bright and cheery! After 5 1/2 years I’m ready to change things up around here myself. But I’m not sure I want to “bleed money” either—seriously it feels like that doesn’t it?

Oh….Tam–you were the hottie I was referring to in case you were confused….and Brent—-totally looks like you were takin a wizz on the swaggar wagon. Ryan, I can just picture the neighbors now…

Oh come on Krystal, why’d you have to clarify that? Just let Brent have a couple hours of thinking that he *might* have been the hottie. Sorry Brent, shot down — on Valentine’s Day even. Unfortunately my principles don’t allow me to refer to any hotness that you may, or may not have, with the slightest degree of cognizance.

ok so from the list of improvements and comments on here it sounds like we bought a total dump/fixer upper. i swear the house was in good shape when we bought it. it just needed a little updating! so go easy on old Neferland, mmkay?

i LOVE what you’ve done with the house and i still can’t believe how much you did in such a short time and how much craigslist LOVES YOU! my absolute favourite thing is the pop of red chairs against the crisp white and blue in the family room – it just looks cool!!

I am deeply touched — and filled with emotion — and feeling love and appreciation deep inside me because the name I suggested for the Nef mansion was selected from all other incredibly good suggestions. A day that will live forever in my memory and heart. 🙂
