Here, There, and Everywhere

It’s been over a month! Blogging has been pretty far down on my list lately. Four kids will do that to you I guess. All things I enjoy – like writing, shopping, showering, sleeping, brushing my hair – seem to be put on the back burner these days. Mostly due to this little troublemaker:

But I refuse to give up! I realize the current survival mode won’t last forever (I hope), and if I stop documenting things now, I may never start again. And my kids are just too cute and growing too fast to not record it. So here’s what we’ve been up to lately…

Growing!

Josh is 3.5 months old now and starting to acquire some serious chub. He rocks an awesome double chin and super cute squishy cheeks. He is growing out of his clothes left and right, and is working on holding his own bottle. Score! He is a happy old man at heart and gets balder by the day. Though Mom is definitely sad to see all that cute dark baby hair disappear.

Shrinking?

Actually not really shrinking. Not much anyways. Almost four months later and I still feel like such a whale. So far to go, and progress is so slow it’s painful. Ugh. Depressing. Right now my wildest fantasy is fitting into all my old jeans again. Trying to stay positive. I think I can… I think I can…

Spring Break

The kids had two weeks off. Yikes. The fear of being trapped at home with four bored children propelled me off the couch and into the car. We took the whole fam to Utah (Grandma & Grandpa Cox’s) and Idaho (Great Grandma & Grandpa Nef’s farm) for a week just for something to do. The drive up went pretty well – besides having to stop almost every hour for Lindsay to pee on the side of the road. SO annoying. How tiny must her bladder be?? Made me appreciate the camels that are boys.

The ride home was another story. I swear it took twice as long. The kids were all sick of each other. We were sick of the kids. And Josh was sick of being trapped in his carseat. By the time we made it home he literally squealed with glee and kicked his feet on the floor for a good hour. Poor kid. Poor us! Going anywhere with a bunch of kids is NOT easy. Having four kids period is not easy. Props to the Duggars.

That said. It was worth it. We had an awesome trip.

Moo

We paid a visit to the Nef dairy farm out in Rupert, Idaho along with Brent’s parents and sister. It had been almost 2 years since our last visit. And it was magical! I LOVE that place. It’s like a time warp there. Napoleon Dynamite anyone? Everything is straight out of the 50’s, 60’s, or 70’s and it is all so cool and vintage. I feel like I’m about eight years old whenever I visit. Must be the horseys and cows, combined with all the secret rooms, homemade colorful quilts, and old school Fisher Price toys. It’s a back to the basics kind of place and it is always so so refreshing. As is the milk. Brent thinks it’s as good as ice cream.

And I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again. Grandpa Nef is the cutest little man on the planet. I hope he and Grandma both live to be about 157.

Lindsay made a cute cowgirl, don’t you think? Pretty sure she had both Grandpa’s wrapped around her little finger that day.

Up Close and Personal

Thanks to my sis-in-law Melanie, we somehow landed last minute tickets to the Sunday morning session of LDS General Conference in Salt Lake City. And not just any tickets. They were crazy floor level, able to see the general authorities nodding off, 7th row seats tickets. AH-MAZING! I was really hesitant to go because I had to leave the baby for so long, but Brent talked me into it, and I was so glad I went. Being an old choir nerd, I have a long standing love affair with the MoTab choir and it was so powerful to hear them perform in person. Their closing song of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing was in-sane. I just closed my eyes and let the tears roll down my cheeks. God speaks through music!

Downtime and Dinosaurs

We spent the bulk of the week just hanging out at my parent’s place in Alpine. My mom cooked for us, I didn’t clean, I slept in, and we watched a lot of movies. It was nice. Brent and I even got to escape for a date to Cafe Rio and to see Hunger Games. Thank you Mother!

We had fun catching up with some dear old friends (shout out to Clayton, Pete, and Janelle!). And we got to meet a new Cox cousin, (Kenny and Jane’s) baby Dorothy. Who is the prettiest little thing you’ve ever seen. Josh looks like some sort of baby giant next to her. 🙂 We spent a day with my sister Susi’s family too and let all the little cousins play. They have the BEST time together.

We spent our last vacation day on a family outing to the Museum of Ancient Life at Thanksgiving Point. It was a hit! The kids could’ve stayed all day. Though the boys are now begging me to let them watch Jurassic Park. They say blood and guts don’t bother them. And that they like to be scared. I’m thinking the answer is still NO. Ha.

And that’s a wrap. Till next time. Hopefully it’s not another month!

My favorite two pictures: Lindsay on the fence with Grandpa Nef nearby and Danny and the dinosaur — so awesome!

Loved the history and all the great pictures. Yes, it was fun. So glad you came and made the hard trip. I especially loved your comments about the choir. I think the picture of Lindsay on the horsey looks a bit like me when I was that age!! So Dylan watched Jurassic park when he was about 3 years old and loved it!! It’s just the ones in the kitchen scene that scare me!

    Love, Gma Cox

love it! it is SOOOO hard to stay on top of blogging with so many little kids. but i’m like you in that i feel like if i don’t try to record something now i’m never going to pick it back up again! your kids are seriously so cute and i’m glad that even though your traveling was a nightmare you had enough fun on your trip to make up for it. alex is DUNZO with the carseat, too, after our recent trip up to see kristin and family up in indiana. i think that he thinks every time i buckle him up in the car now he’s going to be trapped for hours and hours at a time. poor little lamb…
