I’ve decided four kids is a lot. Two to three seemed average. Four crossed over into the “lot” category. Where I can tell sometimes people look at me like, “get your tubes tied lady.” Such as today when on the way out of the gym Lindsay had a complete screaming crying melt down (mainly because it was way past nap time) while I was trying to herd all four kids out of the kids club, through the main foyer, and out the front door. I was pushing a stroller with one hand, carrying a barefoot screaming tutu wearing toddler with the other, yelling at my 6 year old to hold open the big heavy doors for us (while running over his toes with the stroller, repeatedly), all while my 8 year old relentlessly yanked on my sleeve mooing “Mom, Mom, Mom, Mom…” wanting to know how much the sports watch on display at the counter cost…
The kids club manager came over to see what all the commotion was, probably thinking someone was dying with all the chaos. She says, “Do you need help? You’ve got your hands full”. To which I replied with a death stare that I still feel kind of bad about. But honestly, all I could see on her face was “Get your kids under control.”
It was one of those awful embarrassing moments that made me want to just sit in my car and cry. But I didn’t. No time for tears. With a crazy busy life and a lot of little kids my general plan of attack these days is SURVIVE. Ha. That and stay ahead of the pack.
Which is why the following video is HILARIOUS to me. Also because we are quickly approaching the 300 club at Costco these days. Meaning we can’t get out of a grocery store without spending A LOT of money. Just on stuff like peanut butter, bread, cereal, bananas, and toilet paper. My brother in law came over last week and couldn’t believe the amount of milk I had just bought (6 gallons), and when I told him that usually lasted us about 10 days his jaw hit the floor. These kids EAT. And drink. ALL. DAY. LONG. It is crazy! And I am not ashamed to admit that I often shovel crap food down them like goldfish, fruit snacks, and hot pockets, just to get them to leave me alone for a few minutes. Hahaha. Again, survival people. Don’t judge.
Also a little frightening: school is out. Summer vacation got off to a bit of a rough start today, but I’m hoping things get better and that we all enjoy the break from the daily grind. Jake had his best year yet in third grade. Top notch grades, lots of friends, wonderful achievements, and a fabulous teacher that had a huge crush on him. LOVED Mrs. Young! I think Jake also read enough this year to put any librarian to shame. 🙂 He is actually sad to go to fourth grade. I remember loving third grade too. I’m glad school comes so easily to him and that he always has his nose in a book.

Danny learned a ton in first grade this year. He gained a lot of confidence and is now reading chapter books. He is such a good worker and doesn’t complain. Danny was great about getting his homework done every day and doing everything his teacher asked. I don’t think we had one behavior issue with him at school all year. He is such a sweet boy, wants to do what’s right, and is excited for second grade. He has great enthusiasm in everything he does and it is infectious. Thanks to Miss Wertz for a great year! Can’t believe how big both my boys are getting. Danny continues to grow at an alarming rate and literally TOWERS over all the other kids his age. I think Jake only has about a half an inch on him now… and Jake is NOT short. Gotta love those nice tall Nef genes. 🙂

Stay tuned. More to come…
