And there are a LOT of candles on that cake! Thirty-one to be exact. It took me three tries to blow them all out. 🙂

Thirty-one years and this is shaping up to be one of the best birthdays I have ever had. A perfect little party the night before thrown by my closest and most hilarious fun friends. Think party hats, pizza, presents, cake, and The Burbs. On a big screen. The best singing of Happy Birthday I have ever received (thank you Lee Quigley). Sleeping in till eight this morning. Staying in my pajamas till noon, then swimming with my kids until 3. In-N-Out for lunch. And now a fun double feature planned for me and my best friend after the kids go to bed… It’s been so low-key and relaxing, and exactly what I needed.
And just when I was thinking how perfect the weekend had been, my family presented me with this (check it out): Mom Is Awesome: By Her Biggest Fans
I always tell Brent not to get me anything, so I was really surprised to get such a great gift that required so much thought and effort. Done all in secret a few weeks before. What a treasure! Especially with the added bonus of the kids’ hand prints, names/ages, (i.e. “Lindsay, 3; Josh, 0”) notes, and drawings all in the front of the book before the title page. My favorite though was that Brent traced his hand too with the label “Dad, OLD”. Haha.
I had such a moment of clarity today on how good life is right now. It is SO busy. And stressful and noisy and dirty. My sliding doors are constantly covered with fingerprints, there are toys all over the place, dishes in the sink, the kids are fighting half the time, and I am exhausted every night. But I KNOW that I will look back on this phase of my life and realize that it was one of the sweetest. Our family all under one roof, everyone healthy and happy, a husband who still thinks I’m “hawt”, and a gaggle of cute crazy kids in tow.
I’m just feeling incredibly blessed, lucky, and thankful. Not a bad way to spend the day… 🙂
