It scares me that I have a fourth grader. I totally remember fourth grade. The friend drama. The school projects. The lunch line. My teacher… It wasn’t my favorite.
But I hope Jake makes some happy memories this year. He LOVED everything about third grade and wanted to stay there forever (funny, so did I). He was really hesitant to start fourth grade. And can you blame him? Look at that pile of books waiting to greet him!!! Seriously – suddenly gone are the cute baskets of crayons, pencil boxes, and room decor. Parents aren’t lingering, teachers expect you to leave. And the kids look enormous all the sudden. Like 80% of them hit a sort of pre-puberty puberty over the summer. It was enough to give even me a mild anxiety attack.
But once again, we seem to have lucked out with an amazing teacher, and Jake came home the first day of school pumped and proclaimed fourth grade to be “AWESOME!” So happy to have a kid who loves school and does well in it. What a blessing!
Danny landed in a class with a few of his good friends from church, and other friends from years past. So he was nothing but smiles and excitement for second grade. One of the youngest in his class – but for sure one of the biggest. I have been impressed with how much his reading, writing, and math skills have picked up this year. Danny grew A LOT over the summer, along with his eyes – which thankfully seems to have brought some marked improvement to his vision. Schoolwork is easier, and he is less clumsy!! Hooray for glasses, no more eye patching, and for our great pediatric opthamologist.

And seriously – how cute are my boys? Jake picked the pink shirt for the first day because he “likes colorful”. What a stud.
Lindsay-girl had to wait a few torturous weeks longer to start up at Miss Diane’s Precious Garden Preschool. And she was beyond ready. And excited. That girl needs a social outlet, STAT. Same school her brothers went to, but I am shocked at the difference in rentention, and at a younger age! Girls ARE different. She sings all the songs around the house, tells me the sounds each letter makes, and comes home wanting to do “homework” and will practice writing letters she just learned – with what is the cutest attention to how you properly hold a pencil I have ever seen.
Also – I could die over how fun it is to shop for her.

She is SO.DANG.CUTE. And happy. And friendly!! She really is a light – which I somehow knew she would be even before she was born. That was why I insisted her name start with an L. I associated it with light. And why I painted her room yellow before she was born. And why it was so cool that in her baby blessing Brent repeatedly called her bright, and a shining light.
She really is our sunny girl.

And my heart hurt WAY more than I thought it would on her first ever day of school. I think her especially, I’m having a hard time seeing grow up…
THIS guy on the other hand – seems content to be my baby forever. He is enormous and chubby. And looks like a little man. But at 9 months he still has no teeth, and is barely mobile. He is my adorable, squeezable, squish-able, bump on a log. And I LOVE HIM FOR IT.
