Brent… and Cristina! You were the only two who voted for a Feb. 11th birthday. Not sure what you win… besides bragging rights. If you hadn’t already heard, Lindsay Joanne Nef was born Wednesday at 8:10pm. She weighed 6 lbs. 13.5 oz. and was 19 inches long. My doctor predicted she’d be almost a pound smaller than my boys and that she’d be fast – she was right! I had regular contractions starting at 7 am on Wed. morning. We checked into the hospital at about 5:30pm with me at a 4 – 5 and seriously uncomfortable. Bring on the epidural!! Problem is, it takes a while to actually GET the epidural, so by the time Dr. Happy showed up I was WRITHING in pain. Ugh. I shudder just thinking about it.

This was the furthest I’ve ever gotten without meds – and man it was BAD. At times I thought I was going to throw up, pass out, cry, or let out one of those horror movie screams. Instead I thrashed around in the bed, whimpered, said “Freak” a lot, squeezed the heck out of Brent’s hand, and begged for drugs. It was almost 7pm and I think I was dilated to an 8 by the time things finally went numb – or at least numb enough. Thank goodness I didn’t have to go without. I don’t know how or WHY anyone does. (Ellen – get the epidural!)

At 8pm the nurse comes in and says ok let’s do a practice push and see if you can move the baby. I push once, she panics, says STOP the baby is right there, runs into the hall, comes back with some random midwife cuz the doc is delivering another baby next door and they don’t have time to find another one. She scrambles to get some gloves on, I push once, twice, and baby is out! 3 pushes total. This is where my mind hears the mailman from Mr. Rogers saying, “Speedy Delivery!”

We think Lindsay Jo is practically perfect in every way. She’s cute, mellow, and so warm and snuggly! I can see both Jake and Danny in her, but she’s got her own look. Not to mention a perfectly round little head that I love. Brent envisioned her blonde and blue – I think he might win that bet too. (You’re on a roll, dear.) Other good news: LJ seems to be diggin a pacifier so far. The boys always hated them. Might be nice for a change… though I’d be lying if I didn’t say that all I can see is Maggie Simpson every time she sucks on it.
We came home from the hospital yesterday afternoon, a whopping 18 hours after giving birth. We barely had time to squeeze in a few family pictures and our traditional Pizza Hut hospital picnic. Easy and fast delivery = easy and fast recovery! The boys fight over Lindsay like she’s a shiny new toy. Jake especially seems to be smitten with “his baby” and rarely leaves her side. If anyone wants to come by for a visit, just give us a call! I’ll decide whether you’re worth changing out of my pajamas. And thanks to everyone for the well wishes. We are counting our blessings and feeling the love for our growing family this Valentine’s Day.
