A year ago today, around this time, I was in a hospital room watching Lost with my hour old baby girl sleeping in my arms. Her delivery was so quick and so easy – she was born around 8:30 pm – that everyone was out of my room to leave us alone by 9. Just in time for my favorite show! Too bad I was so elated to have a DAUGHTER that I had a hard time concentrating on anything else… even Sawyer. 🙂 One year later and I am still so elated to have that little girl. I often find myself just watching her with a big goofy grin on my face for long stretches of time…
Babyhood is typically not my favorite phase, but Lindsay broke the mold. She has been nothing but a joy and I’ve treasured every moment with her. I think after three kids you start to realize just how fast those moments go. Even when she is driving me nuts each Sunday in church (a nightmare!), I lean over and whisper to Brent that I don’t care if she never sits still, refuses to nap, gets into everything, turns into a drama queen tween, or even if she turns out to be a horrible teenager. Seeing her decked out in little dresses, hearing her laugh, watching her bust a move to music = TOTALLY worth it.

Hard to believe that she is now considered a “toddler” with a mouth full of teeth to match! She’s not walking yet, but that doesn’t slow her down. She is a fast and efficient crawler, cruises, and is fluent in “Daddy pick me up and carry me” speak. She quietly opens all the kitchen drawers and removes all their contents, then moves onto her brothers’ room where she daintily pulls all the books from the shelves, scatters puzzles pieces everywhere, and repeatedly chucks their piggy banks across the floor.
She likes to climb up the stairs but then can’t figure out how to come down, and she is the worst eater I’ve ever had. She does not like baby food, and will flat out refuse it on most occasions. If she had it her way she would do nothing but drink her bottle all day long. She does however like PB and J sandwiches, baby Cheetos, yogurt, apples, ice cream, pizza, and pretzels. She loves attention, and always wants to be where the action is. She’s not afraid of adventure and won’t hesitate to join in wrestling with Daddy and the boys, or be tossed overhead and upside down. Yikes!

Lindsay is also a ninja in training. All I have to do is turn my head for about 30 seconds and she is somehow standing with one leg hanging over the high chair, stroller, or shopping cart – no matter how tight I strap her in! She gets away with all this and more because she is generally happy, sporting cute shoes, and is the life of the party. Unless of course it’s her actual birthday party – in which case she is over-tired, cranky, confused, and NOT amused. (see video below) Oh well. I enjoyed making her cake, and eating it too.
I also enjoyed supplying her with gifts that she had either no interest in nor immediate use for – like several My Little Ponies from “Jake and Danny”, a yellow ruffly swimsuit, and a bunch of cute shirts. She also received the best present from her Auntie Chantel – an adorable home sewn cloth dolly that matches her room and is about the cutest thing you’ve ever seen. “Lindsay” will really enjoy looking at it playing with it from afar.

Happy birthday to my baby. We love you Lindsay girl. Especially all of your hugs, snuggles, and kisses. You are the most affectionate baby I’ve ever seen. You even plant wet ones on your Care Bears! Seeing you try to catapult yourself into Daddy’s arms when he gets home and then always snuggle into his chest and rest your head on his shoulder is one of the great things in this world. We hope it’s a habit you intend to keep.
PS – Thanks to Auntie Jo for Lindsay’s adorable one year old outfit! I’ve been saving it just for today and it did not disappoint. Cheer Bear… couldn’t be more appropriate! We’ve come full circle here, folks.
